We all know that being active and creating a regular workout routine is good for our mind, body, and soul.

But sometimes our inner dialogue tells us skipping our workout will be fine, or we’ll just do it tomorrow, when tomorrow becomes next week and so on. When this happens, it can be hard to follow through on your plan to make your health a priority. That’s when having a list of motivational tips and tricks can help you be consistent. I’ve created a list of How To Motivate Yourself To Work Out and meet your fitness goals!

1. Define Your Why

The first step in motivating yourself to workout is defining your why. You can’t always rely on external factors, such as a vacation, summer, a wedding, etc. to motivate yourself to workout. Defining your “why” for exercise will give you a personal or emotional investment in your goals. Do you want to become healthier? Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to feel better?Decide why it is you want to start this journey and write it down. Writing down your goals means that you can visually see them. This is an important point because when we see something, it affects how we act. You’re more likely to be productive if you can see what you have to do, instead of just thinking about it.

2. Schedule It In Your Calendar

The next step in motivating yourself to workout is scheduling it in your calendar. Decide what type of workout you’ll do, for how long, and where. There are countless benefits to scheduling your daily exercise on the calendar. Scheduling your exercise allows you to think ahead about the best time for your workout. Commit to showing up for yourself to do your workout each day.

3. Create A Space

We’re all working out from home right now so this one’s important! If you designate an area in your home for exercise it can help you get in the right mindset and minimize distractions that could be a real motivation killer. Spare bedrooms, basements, or even partitioning off the corner of the living room will give you a sacred space to practice yoga or bust out a round of burpees. If it’s nice, try designating a space outside to workout. This will help in motivating you to workout.

4. Think In Small Increments

Sometimes the idea of exercising after a long day feels totally impossible. Rather than giving up before you even start, tell yourself that you’ll just get dressed and do a 5 to 10-minute warm-up. After you get moving, there’s a good chance you’ll want to keep going. And you will feel motivated to finish your workout.

5. Set Small Goals

When it comes to losing weight, small goals win out every time. Start with daily goals, then weekly goals, monthly goals, and finally, aim to hit your target. It is easier to focus on what you can do today than to focus on what you can do within a year. When you set a goal that is too far into the future, you will lose confidence, momentum, and fail to focus on it. Starting off small will help you to stay motivated to workout and reach your goals.

6. Focus On Adding, Not Taking Away

To stay help you stay motivated, rather than getting rid of everything you think is unhealthy, shift your focus to adding food that might be missing from your day, such as fruits and veggies. You can start by adding a fruit smoothie. Check out these delicious and healthy fruit smoothie recipes here.

7. Mix It Up

Another great way to stay motivated is to mix up your workouts. One workout plan can work temporarily, but it won’t work forever. To keep your motivation running at top speed, periodically change your workouts. It’s also a smart idea to cycle through different fitness classes (once the world opens back up) and modes of cardio and resistance training within the week.
